UNDP considers human rights as an integral part of human development. This is solidly grounded in the international human rights machinery, which consists of legally binding human rights instruments adopted at the global and regional levels in addition to the various bodies and mechanisms set up to monitor compliance with these instruments.UNDP Saudi Arabia adopts two strategic areas of interventions:

1.    Supporting the strengthening of national human rights systems; and
2.    Promoting the application of a human rights-based approach (HRBA) to development programming.

In terms of HRBA, UNDP CO conducted an extensive training during the period 12-13 December 2009 in an effort to expose concerned staff to the principles of HRBA in programming and programme implementation with the two overriding objectives:

· Enhanced their understanding of the human rights system and its centrality to the work of the United Nations as well as to the national contex

· Gained familiarity with the human-rights-based approach and its application to the programme process as well as to operations.
