Mr. Jan Egeland came to the Kingdom following two missions to Sudan and Chad to meet with Saudi Officials to discuss further ways of cooperation in the humanitarian assistance sphere. He met with Prince Salman bin AbdulAziz, Governor of Riyadh; with Prince Turki bin Mohammad bin Saud Al-Kabeer, Under-Secretary for Political Affairs and Director General of International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and with Dr. Saleh Al-Twaijri, the President of the Red Crescent Society in Saudi Arabia. He had lunch at The World Assembly for Muslim Youth (WAMY) with the President Dr. Saleh Al-Wuhaibi and then headed to the UN House in Riyadh to meet with the UN Representatives in Saudi Arabia and hold a press conference. His core message was about the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) seeking to direct the humanitarian assistance into adopting a multilateral framework rather than mere bilateral cooperation.
