UNDP Saudi Arabia, inline with the Kingdom’s development priorities aligns its work along a select number of service lines. The areas addresses are tailored to meet some of the challenges raised in the Ninth Development Plan. UNDP’s focus in Saudi Arabia has, recent years shifted from assistance in infrastructure to a softer assistance in terms of implementation of strategies and planning, e-government, energy efficiency, environmental conservation and the accession to WTO. Recent reforms in the country and emergent needs have also geared our programme to towards some new paths. UNDP’s involvement in the Water sector has been mostly in terms of assistance with the national Strategy and will soon focus on capacity building. The municipal elections held for the first time in the country provided UNDP with an opportunity to offer its services to the government upon their request. Requests fro assistance by the Saudi Commission for Tourism, the newly established Saudi Food and Drug Administration and the Human Rights Society are but a few examples of where our work is headed. UNDP SA has been very active with different stakeholders in terms of HIV/AIDS awareness activities. In order to meet the rising needs of employment for women, UNDP SA has embarked on a few activities aiming at increasing job opportunities and providing leadership skills to women.
The UNDP’s activities are divided into five categories called Practice Areas, each of which is subdivided into a number of Service Lines: Practice Area # 1 Practice Area #2 Practice Area # 3 Practice Area # 4 Practice Area # 5 In addition, there are six Cross-Cutting themes that can apply to any of the practice areas: |
