  • What is UNDP?
    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's principal provider of development advice, advocacy and grant support. It has long enjoyed the trust and confidence of governments and NGOs in many parts of the developing as well as the developed world. It is typically regarded as a partner rather than an adversary, and its commitment to a universal presence has proven especially useful in post-conflict situations and with states that had been otherwise isolated from the international community
  • When was UNDP launched in Saudi Arabia?
    UNDP Saudi Arabia was formed in 1965 as a development partner to the government in a variety projects spanning many fields, and has shaped its services in response to the nation's development needs
  • What does UNDP Saudi Arabia do?UNDP Saudi Arabia has six priority practice areas:

  • Who are the decision-makers (in UNDP and our partners)?
    UNDP Saudi Arabia CO, plans its programmes and projects based on a Country Programme Action plan (CPAP) in coordination with our Regional Bureau of Arab States (RBAS) and signed off by the Government of Saudi Arabia. UNDP’s counterpart in Saudi Arabia is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Development projects UNDP works on are all demand driven and initiated by our government partners in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Where does UNDP money come from and what does it spend it on?
    The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a Net Contributing Country. As such, it is not entitled to UNDP track money, the Government Contributes USD 2,000,000 towards the local office, and the UNDP Development projects in Saudi Arabia are funded, for the most part (95 to 97%) by the government. However, a small percentage of our projects could be funded by the private sector upon approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a government agency.
  • How does UNDP do business (including internal rules and regulations as well as major procurement decisions)?
    Most of our projects are nationally executed and managed by a National Project Coordinator appointed by the government counterpart. Major procurement decisions are made either according to UNDP rules and regulations or in accordance with the government rules and regulations. This arrangement is usually agreed upon at the onset of a project.
